Krystal Lee

Coach Krystal Lee was a scholarship player at Vanguard University and was a member of the 2003 Golden West College State Championship Team. She runs the Girl’s Volleyball Program at El Modena and also teaches Health and Physical Education there. She has successfully coached both boys and girls teams at Whittier Christian High School, Los Altos High School, and La Jolla Country Day School. She was a clinician at the USC Volleyball Camp and coached at Impact Volleyball Club in Yorba Linda. She was the director of beach volleyball for Sinjin Smith Volleyball Camps in San Diego.
Krystal received her degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis on teaching and coaching, at San Diego State. She received her credential in Physical Education at Long Beach State. Krystal has a passion for teaching volleyball skills to young players and bringing them to the next level. “I want to provide each player with the fundamentals and skills to help them achieve their goals whether it be playing on the high school varsity team to securing a college scholarship.
Kai Shiu
Kai Shiu is the current 2010 CIF Champion Campbell Hall School Varsity Girls Assistant and JV Girls Head Coach and Current Varsity Boys Assistant and JV Boys Head Coach. Over 25 seasons of experience in coaching college, clubs, high schools, and middle school as well as non profit organizations.
Under educational programs, he served as Women’s Assistant Coach at East Los Angeles College, Varsity Girls’ Head Coach at San Marino High School (3 straight CIF playoff appearances), Varsity Boys’ Head Coach At Pasadena Polytechnic School (CIF Championship Finalist in 2004 & 2005), Varsity Assistant and JV Head Coach at San Dimas High School (3 straight CIF playoff appearances), St. Lucy High School (2 straight CIF Semi- Finals appearances, 2 straight CIF Qtr Finals appearances), Salesian High School (CIF Championship Finalist in 2007), Ayala High School (CIF Playoff appearance), and Huntington Middle School (210 Middle Schools League Champions in 2010), Campbell Hall High School (CIF Champion in 2010)
Under travelling club organizations, Coach Kai co-founded non-profit Starlings San Gabriel Volleyball Club and served as 16-1 head coach, Top Gun Volleyball Club 14-1 team Head Coach for 5 years, defunct San Gabriel Volleyball Club 14s and 12s under team Head Coach, San Gabriel Elite VBC 15s and under level, and defunct Formula 1 Volleyball Club 18s and 15s under teams Head Coach. His previous Top Gun VBC teams had ranked in Top 20s in SCVA and won divsions in Volleyball Festival in Davis and Reno.
As Head Coach, his players had gone to play for Navy, Army, Princeton, Cal State LA, Mt. Sac College, as well as winning 2 CIF Player of the Year Awards, many All CIF Team Selections, All Rio Hondo League Team Selections, and All Preps League Team Selections.
Giving back to many communities constantly in his spare time by hosting and working volleyball camps for city’s recreation department to Boys’ and Girls’ Club and local YMCA.
Emily James
Coach Emily played for Mizuno Long Beach, formerly Club Long Beach, leading into high school and all throughout before playing her senior season for Team Specifit. She competed at St. Paul High School all four years on varsity, 3 of which were under Coach John VanDeventer (Coach V). After high school, she went on to play at Citrus College in Glendora and then on to University of La Verne where she earned her degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business.
After playing at La Verne, Coach Emily took her experience and knowledge and coached at St. Paul for two seasons before moving to Houston, TX. While living in Houston, Emily worked for Swift Worldwide Resources and coached two seasons for Club Kaboom.
Coach Emily is very excited to be a part of the Club Oakley family. She’s ready to create an atmosphere that will allow the student-athletes to compete, play hard, stay disciplined, take pride in themselves and the team and have fun!
Angelica Sievers
Coach Angelica Sievers played for Cerritos College for two years as a libro. She was captain and co-MVP both years.She has coached volleyball for seven years. First starting off as an assitant coach for a 16’s team at Amazon Volleyball Club. She has coached a boys high school j.v. team, a girls 12’s team, a girl’s 14’s team, and coached an 18’s team for two years at Club Green.
She is currently coaching at El Modena with Coach Krystal Lee and helping the program develop. Angelica is attending her last semester at Cal State Long Beach, majoring in Human Development. She wants to have a career in Counseling. She has a strong passion for coaching and working with the youth. Angelica believes that volleyball is a great vehicle in helping individuals develop life skills.
Monique Gayton
Monique Gayton is currently obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. She attended La Serna High School from 1999-2003. She was a two sport four year varsity player for the volleyball and basketball teams. There she was named Team Captain, MVP and make the All League team each year she was on the team for volleyball. For basketball she received recognition on the All League teams also, and was named her team’s best defensive player. After graduating, she played at Cerritos College in 2003, was named All Conference 2nd team as a setter.
Monique took a break from school for 6 years but decided to stick with coaching. In that time she coached girls volleyball and boys volleyball at Santa Fe High School, La Serna, Cypress, Club Green and Roots Volleyball Club. After years of coaching she decided to go back to play and attended Cerritos College in 2009. She was named team MVP, made All Conference 1st team and named on the All So-Cal team. She received a full scholarship to Hope International University where she played as a setter and Team Captain. This past season she received the job at her Alma Mater and had a very successful season in having all 3 levels take the league championship. She is currently working with boys volleyball at La Mirada High School and is looking forward to the Club Oakley season.
Katie Saavedra
Coach Katie Saavedra attended St. Paul high school and was a four year Varsity started as a outside hitter. Katie attended Cypress College for two years. In 2009 won the state championship. Katie recieved a full ride to the University Arkansas as a Outside Hitter and Libro.
Katie has successfully coached St. Paul high school j.v. And varsity. She has coached at Hacienda Heights Starlings Club. Katie also trains volleyball players in speed training at different clubs and high schools. Katie has done speed training at San Gaberiel Club, Hacienda Heights, Culver City Club, Laguna high,Cypress high, and St. Paul, and Huntington high. Katie currently has an offer to play at New Mexico State.
Katie has recieved her AA at Cypress College. Her major is on psychology. She is currently is attending Cal Poly Pomona. Katie has the passion and want to teach her players the skill they need. Katie goal is to get them to where they want to go.
Ashley Lee
Currently, Ashley is on a NCAA division 1 college scholarship playing at Long Beach State. As a junior, playing setter, she became team captan to lead the team to take 1st place in conference.
She was AAA beach rated at 15 and represented the USA in the FIVB under 19
Women’s Beach Championships in Bermuda at age 16. Ashley and Krystal have
won various grass doubles tournaments together.
Coach Ashley Lee was a 4 year MVP at Wilson High School and a Miramonte League
MVP in 2007. She led her high school to their first CIF Volleyball Championship as a
senior. She was CIF player of the Year and San Gabriel Valley Tribune Player of the
Year.
Norm and Jeanne Lee
Raise and guided their two daughters, Krystal & Ashley, through middle school, high
school, club, beach and college volleyball. A great resource for those parents who
would like to learn more about what volleyball has to offer for their children and how
to help them be successful in this sport.
Norman has been involved in volleyball most of his life. Coached at Fairfax High
School, helped at Wilson High School, and coached and guided Krystal and Ashley
throughout their volleyball careers. Director and sponsor of the Boys Volleyball Clubs
at Fairfax and Wilson High Schools. He ran numerous grass volleyball tournaments
for the County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation. Started the league that
eventually became Westside Volleyball. Started Under 7′ Volleyball for adult
recreation players. Founded and directed Smash Volleyball Club in 2002.
